Is there a Safekeys version for UBUNTU, or is not necessary for a Linux system?
Thanks
No, there isn't an equivalent of Neo's SafeKeys for Linux/Ubuntu.
However, I've done a test, and Neo's SafeKeys does seem to work on Ubuntu using WINE.
Many would argue that there isn't really much need for a SafeKeys equivalent on Linux.
I'd generally agree with this for most users for two reasons:
Now, that said, malware protection like SafeKeys is a still not a bad idea on all platforms. Even though Linux/Unix is pretty rock solid, there are possibilities for infection - why else would continuous patching be required?
...Malware writers are always looking for new ways to infect more machines.
Thanks for responding.
As matter of interest which of the following do you think would be safer for Internet banking.
1. Vista + Internet Explorer + Safekeys
2. UBUNTU + Firefox (set to private browsing) + nothing else
Thanks
ps. Banking site is https
This would be incredibly hard to say with any degree of certainty, and would be more a matter of opinion than anything else.
What would it take to make a Linux version of Safekeys?
Hi prometej. A true Linux version, and not just a port would be a large undertaking. However, I do know that Neo's SafeKeys 2008 does work in Linux using Wine. Haven't tried Neo's SafeKeys v3, but I'm guessing it will work as well.
Neo's SafeKeys has been written using Windows APIs (programming interfaces). I've done a lot of research into the Windows APIs to know how Windows works and in particular how screenloggers work in Windows, and how to circumvent them.
Much of this process would have to be started again from the beginning if it were to be written for Linux (or Mac for that matter).
