Hi Zeianbast,

You're right - this is not a download error. It appears as though your computer is missing the MSCOMCTL.OCX file, which is a common Microsoft file that should be on your computer. (Neo's SafeKeys uses this to run...)

How to Correct or fix this dependency error:

1. Get MSCOMCTL.OCX and save a copy in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
It should already be on your computer - search here first. If it isn't on your computer, you could get from another Windows computer, or Google MSCOMCTL.OCX (there are many sites that host it for downloading).

This may be all that is required. Try running Neo's SafeKeys 2008.

...if Neo's SafeKeys 2008 DOESN'T run, then perform this additional step:

2. Click Start --> Run, then type REGSVR32 MSCOMCTL.OCX.

Let me know how you go.

Neo

Hi Neo,
you made a very fast update, which is working. So the "NOT SAVE" is SOLVED!!!

You can change the topic name. I don't want to hold users back, using Neo's Save Key.

I downloaded Neo’s SafeKeys 2008 (v2.1.0), and when trying to run the install exe comes up with an error

"Run-time error '339': Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependancies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

I tried re-DLing it multiple times, doesn't seem to be a DL error

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your feedback and assistance on this one. It's great to know that Neo's SafeKeys now works against Personal Inspector (and other keyloggers that use the same capture methods that they use).

It's all part of the war for personal security against these keylogger programs. Just got to see what these companies come up with next... :)

I've put a new version (v2.1.0) on the downloads page http://www.aplin.com.au/?page_id=338 which implements and extends on the v2.0.4 (beta), offering the same protections across the whole application. It's a recommended download for all Neo's SafeKeys users.

Again, thanks for your help Matt. Hey - would you mind if I put a "Resolved" at the end of this topic name?

Neo.

Hi Matt,

I believe that I may have found a way to stop Personal Inspector from logging Neo's SafeKeys passwords. I've hastily put together a new (beta) version of Neo's SafeKeys 2008 to assist. Passwords that are masked using the "***" mask should now be protected within Neo's SafeKeys - but I cannot seem to determine if they are protected within target applications (when the password is drag-dropped).

Everyone is welcome to download it from here: http://www.aplin.com.au/?page_id=443

I would love it if users would be able to give me feedback on how successful I've been in this fix!

Neo.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for raising this. In my testing of various keylogger packages, Neo's SafeKeys has always proven successful. I hadn't tried personal inspector though.
I have had a chance to have a quick check using personal inspector, and you are correct. Personal Inspector does defeat Neo's SafeKeys 2008.

I will place a note on the website until I find a way around this issue.

I want to try to keep Neo's SafeKeys ahead of the commercial keyloggers (if at all possible) - this gives me a good kick to improve the program.

Again - thanks...

Neo.

Hello Neo,
just for your info, the use of NEO's Safe Key does NOT HIDE the password-input to keyloggers.
A test with PERSONAL INSPECTOR (Monitoring tool) shows, each button click is visible. And at the end, when you move the password in a field, the whole password is visible.

very dangerous.
